Under my eyes, here are the colours of this Tet Tân Mão 2011, from my own family, my extended family, my friends, and the way Saigonese celebrate Tết on the Nguyễn Huệ & Đồng Khởi street!
Above: my mom has the habit of buying quirky decoration from China Town, each year we have those cute animals! Love it
Above: They’re white chocolate actually those fishes, used for worshiping ritual!
Above: some of the kit for ritual and god praying. I honestly dont know the entire process. My family does it! A bit worry when it’s my turn!
Hahahah poor quality bánh tổ, it’s cracking already!
Er…I guess it’s the year of the Cat, so some statues are suitable, just realised my mom English name is Kathy!
And while the inside are being prepared and ready, in the garden, all the flowers already blossom!
My dad worked very hard for the entire year to take care of those Hoa Mai for the new year, we also have white ones too!
Saw this beauty in the herb garden!
And yes I have CATTTT too
Meanwhile….out in public….the city is lid up by street lights in the heart of the city center.
Tết this year also the same day as the Communist Party anniversary on 3rd of February
Tax center, every year, is being used as the hot spot for decoration. Red is the main colour!
And finally, cheers to my friends who celebrated the 2nd day of Tết Tân Mão with me, we cooked up a storm, tapas inspired mixed of Vietnamese traditional Tết food, Spanish and Italian inspired dishes and a bunch of laughter.
Hope all the colours stay vibrant throughout the year.
